This full-time, permanent position is responsible for the strategic planning and day-to-day management of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s social media presence, recognizing what is newsworthy and of interest to DPS’ diverse audiences; identifying issues and opportunities to engage with the agency’s social media communities; developing and implementing an integrated multi-media approach; creating social media ads to promote agency news and events; monitoring the agency’s social media accounts; and tracking other social media platforms with which DPS’ audiences interact. The position will be responsible for creating, executing and maintaining social media strategies and tactics for the Office of Communications (OOC). The position exists to ensure that new media used throughout DPS enhances the agency's reputation and helps DPS achieve its goals by researching social media channels, participating in and monitoring DPS social media accounts and collaborating on content creation. Overall the position will work to increase public awareness and understanding of agency-wide public relations and education initiatives through the new media channels. At the direction of the communications director and deputy director, the position provides strategic oversight and direction for all social media efforts to promote, support and enhance the image, goals, mission and vision of the DPS. This position plans and performs post-production tasks, distributing content via web, social media, intranet and tracking and reporting results. The individual should have a keen eye for design, be highly creative, and have the ability to multi-task and manage projects and daily responsibilities within a dynamic environment. This position also performs other duties as needed, including writing, editing, video and photography support. The position is responsible for maintaining and understanding of social media trends and tracking platforms where the DPS customers and audiences interact. The position is responsible for recommending new social media strategies and use of platforms to maximize the reach of the DPS message.
