The NIOA promotes professionalism and encourages stronger media relations by providing educational information, training opportunities and regional support for the information officer. NIOA members are spokespersons from local, state and federal government, representing law enforcement, fire, medical, emergency management, transportation, public works and other public safety and emergency services agencies.

For more than 20 years, the National Information Officers Association (NIOA) has led the way in professional development for government and public safety agency PIOs all around the country.
The National Information Officers Association, its Executive Board and members host a wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience that are beneficial to PIOs with any level of experience.
Our annual conference each August features PIOs from some of the largest incidents across the nation. Presentations include lessons learned and best practices. We host workshops to hone in on skills such as visual storytelling, photography, news release writing, and more.
We also have built-in networking opportunities because we truly believe in the importance of building a PIO support system with PIOs of varying experience, skills, and of course, multi-disciplines. Also, we most recently led the charge in taking steps to develop, create, and implement a professional designation/credentialing process for PIOs.
