This position functions as a Public Information Officer for the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). It assists in carrying out EGLE’s mission of protecting the environment and public health by managing air, water, land, and energy resources.
This position serves as the media relations specialist responsible for contact with the media, stakeholder groups, the Governor’s office, the Legislature, and the public, while also assisting and supporting EGLE staff members in internal and external communications needs. This position is responsible for media relations including, but not limited to, assisting EGLE’s Communications Manager; developing press releases, story maps, and visual media; providing assistance with social media; responding to media inquiries; coordinating media special events; reviewing press releases and other communications; assisting EGLE’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) staff in handling requests; and developing communications strategies and plans. This position has responsibility for highly complex and specialized communication and marketing and media duties and assignments, handles strategic communications, as well as develops relationships with the media.
