The Student Health Services is seeking a Marketing & Communications Specialist. This is a full-time 1.0 FTE, 12-month, professional faculty position.
The Student Health Services (SHS) mission is to provide leadership for the health of the university community. Reporting to the SHS Information Services Manager (SHSIS Manager), the Marketing and Communications Specialist (MCS) provides expertise for all Student Health Services strategic communications and partners with the SHS Digital Marketing Coordinator to ensure effective marketing for the unit. This position will support SHS leadership in developing, managing, and executing marketing and communication plans that are culturally and linguistically appropriate and support health equity efforts, specifically focusing on serving students of color, first-generation students, and students with high financial need. This includes the promotion of SHS clinical and non-clinical services, through various platforms such as to the SHS website, social media, print, video, and other digital communications and marketing applications. The MCS is also responsible for the supervision of student employees. As needed and at the discretion of the SHSIS Manager, the Director of Finance and Operations and/or the SHS Executive Director and Associate Vice Provost the MCS will assist with the marketing and communications needs of other wellness-related departments and programs such as Counseling & Psychological Services.
Oversee the work of student designers engaged in communications for the unit.
Develop Student Health Services messages to ensure accurate and consistent communications are provided to internal and external stakeholders. Work closely with the Executive Director of Student Health Services and University Relations and Marketing to appropriately respond to student health related issues.
Provide communication support for CAPS, as determined by an interagency agreement
Evaluate existing SHS program and service communication plans and delivery methods and formulate policy/procedural changes to improve efficiency.
Create and manage an annual communication plan for SHS, to include known programs and events, work with department directors and program coordinators to determine yearly communication needs and priorities.
Facilitate qualitative and quantitative data collection to improve delivery of communication and marketing.
Prepare health related marketing/communications presentations and reports as requested. – Represent SHS at OSU events and programs, such as orientation.
Manage information related to SHS in other University publications, media and information sources, and participate in key campus networks (Orange Media, Alumni Association, Student Affairs communication group, The OSU Foundation, etc.).
Oversee all SHS social media participation, including the coordination, management and evaluation.
Oversee planning, maintenance and evaluation of the SHS website, including technical development of applications and other online requirements.
Oversee press releases and seek out opportunities to promote programs and events.
Oversee the work of student designers engaged in marketing for the unit.
Create, manage and evaluate a strategic marketing plan for Student Health Services.
Provide marketing support for CAPS, as determined by an interagency agreement.
Coordinate with University Relations and Marketing to ensure that institutional branding and visual guidelines standards are met.
Oversee the design, production, and dissemination of health marketing materials, including brochures, posters, and other print and electronic materials for the unit. Work with health professionals to ensure accurate health content. Contract professional design/photography services as required to produce materials.
Coordinate all SHS advertising, including media purchasing, design and production.
Manage the development of competitive marketing strategies and technologies, including new communication methods and staff training.
Evaluate ongoing marketing and communication programs, make strategic improvements as required, and incorporate ongoing research and assessment in all SHS marketing and communication programs.
10% Assist with Health & Wellness Alignment Communications and Marketing
Collaborate on the creation of a marketing and communication plan for the Health & Wellness Alignment.
Coordinate marketing efforts among other Health & Wellness Alignment units as appropriate, including co-marketing efforts.
10% Serve on Prevention, Advocacy & Health Promotion Team
Attend Prevention, Advocacy and Health Promotion Team meetings
Assist team with meeting strategic communication and marketing goals for health promotion, prevention and advocacy efforts
Assist with compliance of OSU, State and Federal policies as they relate to Title IX, Clery, and the Drug Free Schools & Campus regulations.
Ensure compliance with OSU’s branding and marketing rules and policies
10% Liaise with Student Health Services departments
Work directly with SHS department directors to establish departmental communication and marketing priorities
Attend SHS departmental meetings as requested
5% Service to Student Health Services and University Committees
Serve on committees within SHS, the Division of Student Affairs and the University
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field.
Three years of marketing, public relations, communication and/or journalism experience.
Must be able to research and articulate medical and health information.
Familiarity with social media platforms and other digital tools and a passion for using these tools to drive action and engagement.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.
