Job summary

Performs skilled administrative support work relating to theflow of information between the City, its employees, and the public, andrelated work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the generaldirection of the Communications Manager.

Pay for this position is $52,605 - $68,384 and includes health,vision, dental and life insurance; 457 ICMA Retirement Plan, as well asparticipation in our deferred compensation Retiree Health Savings Plan (RHSP).Note that dental is provided at no cost to the employee. This position is alsorequired to participate in the City's Municipal Employees' Retirement System(MERS) pension plan, a defined benefit with a multiplier of 2.5%.

Essential functions

-Works as a team with the Communications Manager in disseminatinginformation; serves as a public information officer for media relations andemergency management communications.

-Provides copywriting and editing services to departments andCommunications Manager.

-Works with departments to develop written and visual content toshare with the media and community via newsletters, social media, and otherplatforms, including program and service promotions, special interest stories,outreach and education. Ideal skill set includes basic photo and videoexperience.

-Assists with community engagement and city brand management onsocial media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Nextdoor, and LinkedIn.

-Assists departments with managing website content.

-Provides communications support for press conferences, events, anddepartment marketing campaigns, and assists with developing episodes of thecity’s public access TV program.

-Takes the lead scheduling and monitoring the social media livestreaming component of city public meetings.

-Assists with news releases and answering requests forinformation.

-Assists with program to improve and advance language accesswork to translate, interpret, and share information accessible to all neighborsin the Battle Creek community.

-Weekend and evening work is required.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

This work is sedentary and requires little to no exertion offorce; work regularly requires sitting, bending, reaching, hand dexterity(grasping, holding, keyboarding, repetitive movements), reading, writing,eye-hand coordination, seeing (near and/or far, color, depth, field of vision),hearing, using the telephone, contact with government officials and the generalpublic, working overtime, and working inside and alone.

-A hybrid work schedule is available, pending discussion withsupervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, ora related field.

-Three years’ experience in a communications role.

Special Requirements:

-Valid driver's license in the State of Michigan.
