The VDOT Northern Virginia District is excited to announce the opportunity to serve as a Communications Coordinator (PR and Marketing Specialist III).
Position-specific responsibilities and duties will include, but not limited to:
Provide support to the Assistant District Administrator for Communications (ADA-C) and the rest of the Communications team with key local, state, and federal audiences, including media, government officials, non-profit and private groups, and the general public.
Support award-winning @vadotnova district social media accounts on Twitter, Reddit, and Nextdoor. Provide meaningful engagement with and excellent customer service to residents and the overall online community.
Using Associated Press style, research and write news releases, media advisories and other materials, and disseminate to meet deadlines.
May be asked to work on-location at various VDOT work sites, as needed, to take photos and/or video, creating original content of the stories of construction and project development projects.
Build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Provide support to in-house communications team members and oversee project consultant activities as appropriate.
Research, write and edit materials including newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, news releases, talking points, fact sheets, and web content, and create multimedia assets such as photo and video. Ensure appropriate VDOT branding and style for all communications. Regularly use SharePoint, Constant Contact, and social media publishing software, as well as Adobe Creative Cloud.
Plan and execute virtual and in-person events and meetings, including all logistics for events such as media briefings, ribbon-cuttings, and groundbreaking ceremonies.
Support and execute statewide communications plans. Implement statewide communications policies developed by Central Office and the Communications Working Group.
The selected individual is expected to be available after hours and on weekends to work 12 hour shifts on location at an area headquarters or at the McConnell Public Safety and Transportation Operations Center (MPSTOC) during severe weather and emergencies.
